Hillary Clinton talks climate change in India

Hillary Clinton, in her first visit to India as secretary of state, said Sunday that the United States and India can work together to combat global warming and at the same time spark economic growth and generate new jobs.
“I am very confident the United States and India can devise a plan that will dramatically change the way we produce, consume and conserve energy, and in the process spark an explosion of new investment and millions of jobs,” she told reporters in New Delhi on the third day of a five-day visit to India.
Climate change and reducing carbon emissions have become a major stumbling block in U.S.-India relations. The United States has been reluctant to commit to major reductions in greenhouse gas emissions unless rapidly developing countries such as India and China — which often rely on dirtier forms of old energy to fuel their growth — also agree to curbs. Less developed countries say that industrial powerhouses like the United States have created most of the world’s pollution and must dramatically cut their emissions before demanding that of others.
